Donation Stories

May 14, 2020 2 min read

COVID-19 has affected everyone, and many of us have lost family or friends, or know of people who have been sick. We share a great compassion for those who are sick and for the medical staff who are taking care of us often through long shifts!

We have now been making face masks for over two months. For each face mask we sell on our website, we donate a face mask to medical staff, nursing homes, and volunteer workers.

I would like to thank everyone who has bought a face mask online for contributing to our donations. In addition, a big thank you to generous friends and neighbors who have sent us supplies, including the 100% cotton fabrics needed for the making of donated masks. And of course, a big thanks to my team, Vani and Katherine.

So far, the following institutions have received our masks.

  • Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, NY
  • Bellevue Hospital, New York, NY
  • BronxCare Medical Center, Bronx, NY
  • Mary Wade Nursing Home, New Haven, CT
  • Martha’s Vineyard Community Services, Vineyard Haven, MA
  • The New Jewish Home, New York City (nursing home and medical care)

The face masks that we donate to nursing homes and community services are similar to the face masks we sell online and come with a filter inside. The face masks that we make and donate to medical staff are also made from 100% cotton, but have a very different design and purpose. Their purpose is to protect and prolong the life of the medical N-95 masks. These ‘duck masks’ have ribbons as closures, don’t have filters, and are worn by medical staff on top of the N-95 masks.

As long as COVID-19 remains a threat to our communities, we will continue donating face masks to medical staff and nursing homes.

On behalf of all us at Gilded Lace, a big thank you for your support!
